Dr. Dennis Bielfeldt, who spoke at these lectures in October of 2006, has been teaching at the college and university level for 21 years, having received his Ph.D. in Philosophical Theology at the University of Iowa in 1987. Bielfeldt is the CEO and Provost of the new Institute of Lutheran Theology, a pan-Lutheran, independent Lutheran Seminary which shall involve congregations directly in the education of their pastors.
Dr. Bielfeldt is also a prolific writer whose recent book, The Substance of Faith, was published last year by Fortress Press. Bielfeldt has also written a number of journal articles, encyclopedia articles and book reviews in Luther and the Reformation, as well as in Theology and Science. A number of articles will appear later this year dealing with some of the themes he shall present over this two day period. Bielfeldt is extremely interested reclaiming a vital Lutheran theology, a theology which shall proclaim with boldness the message of God’s justice and mercy to a lost world. As you can see from the Session Titles below, we have a wonderful opportunity to review our Lutheran heritage, its current challenges from society, and to strengthen our Faith.

The work of the Lutheran Bible Institute California:

  • The Lutheran Bible Institute California is a community of students, faculty, congregations, pastors and laity who seek the person and will of the living God in and through the written Word.
  • Our purpose is to educate the people of the congregation in the Word and the ministry into which He has called them. We are called to "equip the saints" for the building up of the kingdom of God -- the church, the called-out people.
  • Northern California classes are for congregants, pastors, associates, financial officers, youth directors, education directors, and for anyone seeking personal enrichment in their faith life.
