"I love bringing the Bible to the men and women in my classes and helping them to break open the Word." Rolf Jacobson

Several churches in the Santa Clara Valley Lutheran Parish are sponsoring this series of Bible Studies in cooperation with the Lutheran Bible Institute, bringing highly recognized Bible Study leaders to the South Bay for special programs. See previous programs in this series (listed above-right.)

Dr. Rolf Jacobson joined the Luther Seminary faculty as assistant professor of Old Testament in July 2003 after teaching at Augsburg College as an assistant professor of religion. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn. in 1987. He holds a master of divinity degree from Luther Seminary (1991) and a doctor of philosophy degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J. (2000).
His teaching interests include Hebrew, the Psalms, Old Testament prophets, biblical and religious poetry and Old Testament ethics. He emphasizes that the purpose of a biblical text is not just for preaching or teaching, although these are important functions. He says a text can also be used in pastoral care or as a vehicle for personal spiritual growth. In addition, it can also function as a catalyst for change and growth within a congregation. Jacobson has written several works that focus on Old Testament theology and ethics. He has also published works that explore the Psalms and poetry.

The work of the Lutheran Bible Institute California:

  • The Lutheran Bible Institute California is a community of students, faculty, congregations, pastors and laity who seek the person and will of the living God in and through the written Word.
  • Our purpose is to educate the people of the congregation in the Word and the ministry into which He has called them. We are called to "equip the saints" for the building up of the kingdom of God -- the church, the called-out people.
  • Northern California classes are for congregants, pastors, associates, financial officers, youth directors, education directors, and for anyone seeking personal enrichment in their faith life.
