 A study of the Book of Galatians and the Reformation

    Saturday-October 18th
    9:00 am to 3:00 pm including Lunch (Free Will Donation)
    Session 1 - "Freedom from Ourselves 1-2"

  • There is nothing human about the gospel.
  • Its origin, character, message, purpose and goal are beyond humanity.
  • Paul's gospel is free.
  • Yet the gospel is precisely for us.

    Session 2 - "Freedom from the Law 3-4"

  • The law can only condemn, kill, and demand, but can never promise.
  • It can only teach, not do.
  • Yet without it, the gospel is incomprehensible and the cross is meaningless.

    Session 3 - "Freedom for Love 5-6"

  • Grace is given to each not as divine license, but as a transformative power that draws us from ourselves to Another's service.
  • Therefore we are free to be slaves to our neighbor.

    Author & Bible Lecturer

    Rev. Roy A. Harrisville III, Ph.D. has served as a Pastor, Director of Continuing Education, Professor of Biblical Studies & Academic Dean at Trinity Lutheran College, Issaquah, WA, Author, Seminary Professor, & General Manager, Fortress Press. Among his publications are articles on Martin Luther's "On Christian Liberty". His studies on Galatians will serve as an excellent and valuable primer on Luther's foundation and theological background for celebration of the Reformation.

    This Bible Study is sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran-Saratoga in cooperation with Lutheran Bible Institute-California. The level of the study is for high school age and above.
