I’m originally from San Diego. In 1985 I graduated from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) with a B.A. in Psychology -- then, answering a call to the ministry of our Lord Jesus, journeyed to Luther Northwestern Seminary in St. Paul, MN where I received my Master’s of Divinity degree in 1989.
I’ve served congregations in Victorville, CA; New Effington and Claire City, SD; Fargo, ND; and then back to California to serve in San Jose, Santa Clara and now here in Saratoga at ILC since 2008.
I love to teach and to share God’s Word from the treasure of the Bible. I’ve taught the three-year Crossways series several times, and also a short Walk Thru the Bible.
My wife Nola and I have a busy life outside our home as we raise our blended family of seven – which includes two in college, two in high school, two in middle school – and one in preschool.
My hobbies include cycling, hiking, reading and exploring God’s awesome creation.
I’ve found Immanuel to be a wonderful faith community and I consider myself blessed to serve here as pastor. Immanuel is a place to explore your faith and grow in your faith. It is a place to ask questions and to share insights. It is a sharing community which invites your input and is here to support you.
I’m excited to embark on an amazing journey in 2012 as we cruise down God’s River of Life together. We will meet different people and re-experience different biblical events. But most importantly, we will get drenched in God’s Word! His Word will make contact with us in our lives, and we will experience the presence and power of God in new and surprising ways.
On behalf of our congregation, I welcome you!
Pastor Derek Engfelt
